Oh, Little Firefly is a gentle, imaginative reflection on the rhythm of day and night, where nature comes to life through soft personification and vivid imagery.

Little firefly,

welcome the dawn

of this new day.

Sunlight creeps in,

nudging the world awake.

Golden rays gently touching -

each tree, each rock - the earth;

while she breathes

a fresh breath of life.

He stretches slowly,

causing a majestic glow

to spread across the entirety

of the land.

The earth bubbles to life.

There's creaking, and crowing;

a silent yawn...

finally the day has begun,

and the earth is now fully awake.

But you firefly, go off to slumber.

Soon the yellow sun

rubs his sleepy eyes,

stepping down

from his throne in the sky.

He makes way for the moon,

as she comes in all her beauty.

She shines her light on the earth,

like a gentle lullaby.

Earth responds.

Gentle earth snuggles the creatures in -

at least the ones

who come out by day.

Those like you firefly,

she allows you to play.

The moon smiles widely

as she looks down on sleeping earth.

Now her children have joined her

to witness this nightly scene.

Little firefly, enjoy the life of night.

Reflection:

Ecclesiastes 3:1 -

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.

Just as creation moves in perfect rhythm, so does purpose. The sun rises, the moon follows, and each has its appointed time. In the same way, God has given each of us seasons in our lives. With his help, we must learn to discern the season we are in and trust his timing.

The firefly understands this and knows that its time to come out is in the night. It does not resist or despise it, but embraces it - knowing that this is where it shines best. In the same way, we must learn to appreciate the seasons we are in, for it is often in those very spaces that our best qualities are revealed.
