The Red Planet

Set against the barren beauty of Mars, The Red Planet journeys through the vast loneliness - a place of aching quiet, survival, reflection, and unexpected beauty.

Walking across a silent place,

under a red sky in outer space,

silence upon silence and the air is cold,

a foreign existence in an alien world.

A sea of dust, a sea of dust,

seemingly still - but that's left to be said.

This aching quiet, it hurts my ears,

this quiet giant moving in silent years.

The days are long, the nights are longer,

this alien world makes one's will stronger -

to disappear, or give up; to survive, live, and thrive,

to resurface lost things, to revive; stay alive.

My eyes roam the vastness of the sky,

glimpsing a single star as it whizzes by;

skimming over the hills, valleys; a frozen sea.

Nothing that fascinates immediately.

Yet I'll still treasure its plainness; the quietness it brings,

the heat from the sun and the coldness that stings.

Clothed in iron, particles and more,

a world woven in stillness, yet a deep beauty at its core.
