Woman you have wept,
tears pouring from your eyes;
heart burdened from your troubles
like Hagar in her wilderness,
ready to give up hope.
But the Lord heard her cry,
and the cry of her child.
Hagar, lift up her your head and see,
for the Lord will raise you up,
a mighty and great nation.
Woman - powerful warrior of God,
you have fought hard battles
no one has ever seen.
Yet, like Jael, you have devised wise strategy,
striking down your formidable enemy.
You emerge from your tent
with victory in your stance.
You did not win for yourself;
you turned the tides for a nation...
for a generation of people.
Woman more valuable than rubies,
do you understand your worth?
Made in the image of your Lover -
the God who created you.
He has blessed you with the gift of nurture,
and hands that go beyond duty.
He has clothed you with strength and honour,
imparted wisdom upon your lips.
Oh woman may the fear of the Lord be in you,
and your habitation be filled with praise.
Woman you have waited and travailed,
now you are ready to bring forth,
but your adversary waits to devour
the very thing you are about to deliver.
But woman do not fear,
for the Lord has prepared a place of refuge
in the wilderness of your safety.
What you have birthed will flourish,
what you have laboured for will never fail,
because the Lord is in your midst.
Reflection:
There are moments when we can feel overlooked, forgotten, or wonder whether our lives truly matter. Yet throughout scripture, we see that God often chose the most unlikely people to accomplish His purposes in extraordinary ways and to teach us valuable lessons. Hagar, Jael, and the women woven throughout this poem remind us that significance is not measured by prominence but by faithfulness.
Perhaps today you find yourself in a wilderness, fighting unseen battles, waiting for God's timing, or carrying a dream He has placed within your heart. Be encouraged. The God who saw Hagar, gave Jael wisdom, and upheld countless women throughout scripture sees you as well. Your worth is found in Him, and His purposes for your life remains secure. Even when you feel unseen by others, you are never unseen by God.
